Throughout December, illuminations and decorations will greet visitors to the downtown thoroughfares. The 31 stands of the Christmas market will offer traditional Christmas fare (chestnuts, wine and hot chocolate, pancakes, waffles, etc) and, above all, local handicrafts. There is a multitude of gift ideas, decorations and tastings to discover.
The giant Advent Crown of more than 15m in diameter is the must-see piece to admire at Dannemarie until 6 January.
Many free activities are on offer at weekends, both for young and old: make-up and modeling of balloons, donkey rides, a visit by Father Christmas and horse-drawn carriage rides (Sunday). A beautiful red and white tree awaits children's drawings in the centre of the market and will be rewarded by Santa Claus on Sunday 20th December.
The new free entertainment this year is the Ecological Ride. It takes a dozen children and it is the parents who ride bikes and pedal to make it turn.
The Advent Calendar with a window opened every evening at 6pm (from 1st to 24/12, except Sat.3rd at 7:30pm and Sat.24/12 at 2:30pm), the official inauguration and the torchlight parade (Sat.3/12 at 6 pm - Place de la 5e DB) are the other entertainments during the Christmas period in Dannemarie. Christmas concerts will be performed on the last two weekends in December: on Saturday the 12th at 5 pm the musical trio Nathalie, Jean-Marie and Patrick will sing Christmas songs at the market; on Sunday the 13th at 4pm, the Dannemarie Harmony Orchestra will present its traditional Christmas concert in the centre of the market and on Sunday the 20th at 5pm the Boys Choir of Mulhouse will perform at St-Léonard’s Church.
