The castle of la Roche was the residence of the Lord of the Ban de la Roche. The property of the Rathsamhausen zum Stein family, the castle built in 1180 gradually became a base for ransomers. For this reason it found itself under siege in 1469, eventually being destroyed by the Duke of Lorraine and the Bishop of Strasbourg who subsequently banned any reconstruction of the building. During the late 19th century, some basic reconstruction work provided access to the keep, offering visitors a superb view over the region. Access: from the village, follow the yellow cross which will lead you up to the castle. About a 30-minutes walk.
