The church of Fouday

European Heritage Days : Guided tour of the Protestant church, whose bell tower, a listed historic monument, is the oldest in the Bruche valley. Inside, you will discover the ground floor of the Romanesque bell tower with geminated bays which was the choir of the medieval church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste, the mural paintings which present a coronation of the Virgin and several figures of saints and the nave, rebuilt in 1776 to be more in conformity with the Protestant worship, with a tribune on three sides and benches centred towards the altar and the pulpit. The church of Fouday is especially linked to the personality of the pastor Jean-Frédéric Oberlin, who directed its reconstruction and who rests in the adjacent cemetery. On the iron cross which surmounts his tomb, one reads "Papa Oberlin", testimony of the recognition of his parishioners for his social, educational and spiritual work.
